What is Hydrocelectomy?

Hydrocele surgery, also known as a hydrocele, is a procedure to repair a hydrocele by draining fluid that has accumulated in the scrotum. Hydroceles often go away on their own. However, in some cases where the condition persists for a long period of time, surgical treatment is recommended.

What happens if the hydrocele is left untreated?

Waterworms are generally harmless and do not pose a threat. However, if hydrocele is left untreated for a long period of time, a number of complications can develop, including:

Rupture of the hydrocele: Over time, the volume of fluid that accumulates in the scrotum increases. Large amounts of fluid can put excessive pressure on the scrotum and cause the hydrocele to rupture.

Hematocele formation: This is one of the most serious complications of hydrocele and requires proper medical attention. Any trauma to the scrotum can cause spontaneous bleeding into the sac. This can lead to a hematoma, a swelling caused by a pool of blood in a body cavity.

How to prepare for the surgery?

As with most surgeries, you must abstain from eating food and liquids for at least 8 hours prior to the surgery.

  • Before proceeding with the procedure, you should inform the surgeon of any prescription or over-the-counter medications you are taking to avoid possible complications during the procedure.
  • You may be asked to provide preoperative medical tests, such as blood and urine tests to make sure you are healthy enough to have an operation. You should shower before the operation as the operation area needs to be kept dry to avoid the risk of infection after the operation.
  • The possibility of an allergic reaction to anesthesia should be discussed prior to surgery as it can help avoid complications such as shortness of breath, low blood pressure, and cardiac arrhythmia.

What is the Recovery Process of Piles Laser Surgery?

The recovery from piles laser surgery may differ for individuals. However, it takes about 30-45 days to recover completely.

  • First, ensure that you keep the surgery site clean to avoid infection.
  • Take sitz bath regularly.
  • Avoid lifting heavy weights as that adds additional strain to the surgical site.
  • Eat meals that are nutritious and high in fiber content. Avoid oily and spicy foods.
  • To ensure you are hydrated, drink at least 8-10 glasses of water every day.
  • Do not strain yourself during your bowel movement.
  • If your bowel movements are hard, consider taking stool softeners to alleviate the strain (only after consulting the doctor).
  • Be diligent about taking medications and applying ointments/creams prescribed by your doctor.

What is the best treatment for hydrocele?

The best treatment for a hydrocele is surgical repair. During the operation, the scrotum is emptied sufficiently and the open channel between the scrotum and abdomen is closed to prevent fluid from accumulating again.

How is a hydrocele treated in children?

In children, a hydrocele usually goes away on its own within 6 to 12 months. Therefore, surgical repair is rarely required. If the condition does not improve within 12 months, surgery is performed to prevent the development of complications associated with the hydrocele.

How many rest days are required after hydrocelectomy?

Usually your doctor will recommend complete bed rest for a day. The next day you can start walking, sitting, climbing stairs, etc.Make sure you don't overexert yourself and let the pain guide you to other daily activities.

Treatments for Varicose Veins

Endovenous laser therapy ablation

Also known as endovenous laser treatment or EVLA, this is a minimally invasive ultrasound-guided procedure that involves the use of ultrasound images and laser fiber in order to kill the delicate lining of the veins. After a few days following the procedure, the body absorbs the dead tissues, closing off the abnormal veins with minimal or no discomfort. This is one of the most commonly preferred methods as it involves far fewer complications, and the recovery time, as well as the success rate of this method, is much faster and higher than that of any surgical process.
